Chevy Impala History and Awards

The first Chevrolet Impala was presented as a 1958 model. This top-of-the-line vehicle continued in production until 1985. Many of these early Impalas are regarded as collector vehicles. Production resumed in 1994, but it was not until the eighth generation from 2000 to 2005 that trim levels were introduced. These included the LS and SS trims. By the 2006 model year, the LT trim level was introduced along with the LS, LTZ, and SS trim levels. This corresponds to the ninth generation that included the years 2006 to 2016.

Starting in 2006, the Chevy Impala LT trim was available as a 4-door sedan that could seat 6 people with front-wheel drive and a front-engine. The LT was regarded as the mid-range model. Along with the base LS, the LT featured air conditioning, 16-inch wheels, tilt steering wheel, power driver's seat, power locks, and keyless entry. You had a choice of 2 front bucket seats or one front bench seat. The LT model features remote vehicle start. Cloth seating surfaces were standard while leather upholstery was optional on the LT models. The LT offered alloy wheels and MP3 playback capabilities. Front heated seats were optional. Over the years, various other features and options were added to the Impala LT.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

The Chevy Impala LT has a body style that has changed little over time. It remains a solid full-size sedan like it has always been. In 2006 the Impala received new headlights and taillights. The 2008 model year added 2 sub packages that were known as 1LT and 2LT that included 17-inch alloy wheels. By 2009 the 2LT added a rear spoiler and foglights. The 2012 Impala received slightly revised styling for the front and rear, and the LT lost the foglights. The LT also got an optional sunroof. The 2014 Impala LT gets 18-inch alloy wheels and a wheel package that outfits the vehicle with 19-inch wheels. Note that the LT trim is divided into the 1LT and 2LT sub-trims based on whether the 4-cylinder (1LT) or the 6-cylinder (2LT) is under the hood.

Performance Updates

In 2006 the standard engine for a Chevy Impala LT was a 3.5 liter V6 engine capable of producing 211 hp with torque of 214 lb-ft. A 3.9 liter V6 that could produce 240 hp with torque of 242 lb-ft was also available. This V6 was standard on the LTZ. All Impala models used a 4-speed automatic transmission. By 2007, the V6 came with Active Fuel Management which deactivated half the cylinders when cruising to help save fuel. The 2012 Impala received a new 3.6 liter V6 with direct-injection and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine can produce 300 hp with torque of 262 lb-ft. By 2014 a 4-cylinder engine comes standard on the 1LT models. The 2LT comes with the V6 engine. The 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine comes as standard on the 3 trim levels for 2014. It produces 195 hp with torque of 187 lb-ft. The LT gets an optional 3.6 liter V6 engine that produces 305 hp with torque of 264 lb-ft. Performance testing showed that the Impala with the V6 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds. Test drivers report that the 2014 Impala handles well with precise steering. The ride is comfortable as is to be expected from a full-size sedan.

In general, between 100,000 and 200,000 Impalas were sold in the US from 2010 to 2015. Chances are that you can find the used Chevy Impala LT that you want. Please contact the dealership for more information and to schedule a test drive.
