Honda Civic vs Honda Accord Review

Serving Leavenworth, KS

The midsized Accord sedan and the smaller Civic have been two big sellers for Honda. It makes sense to look for either of these when shopping for a used car. They both have good reputation for value, reliability and durability. Honda’s tendency to offer valuable features, such as touchscreen, on basic editions often means that buyers get a lot for their used car dollar.

Awards and Public Perception

If you check out the 10 Longest Lasting Cars of the Road compiled by Autobytel, you will find both the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic. That is good news for used car buyers who want to get a durable product. The Accord has earned Best Resale Value and Best buy from Kelley Blue Book. For 35 years, Car and Driver has named the Accord to one of its 10Best. The Honda Civic won 2016 North American Car of the Year and In the last seven years, the Honda Civic often was number one by the automotive critics at U.S. News and World Report. Both cars benefit from Honda’s high rankings among automotive companies.

The original Civic came to the U.S. in the early 1970s as a two-door coupe and then a three-door hatchback. In its early years, it gained a reputation for fuel economy and reliability that has rarely faltered. Once classified as a subcompact, the Honda Civic grew over time into a compact. Now in its tenth generation, the Civic has outgrown its classification, gaining a designation of a small-end mid-size car. It is still priced like a small car, and that is good for consumers who are interesting in the four-door Civic. The line up is quite diverse with Civic sedans, hatchbacks, coupes and special performance models.

When the Accord arrived in the U.S. in the 1980s, it quickly climbed to number one status among Japanese cars, and it kept that top spot for 15 years. As a result, the manufacturing moved to the U.S. to make Accords into best sellers that could beat the big American sedans. In 2012, ninth-generation Accords arrived with many of the features we now take for granted, such as dash screens and Bluetooth. Accords may be midsized but this newer generation is pushing into large sedan territory by offering more spacious seating.

Early Civics produced only 55 or 67 horsepower and newer Civics still emphasize fuel economy without sacrificing performance. for one thing, Honda keeps lightening the package. This allows the car to make more out of every horse under the hood. A new turbo engine cranks out 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft. Like the Accord, the Civic is one of the segment leaders in fuel economy.

In 2008, the Accord began offering a 177-horsepower I-4. The alternative is a 271-horsepower V6. The 2012 editions benefited from new powertrains with even better fuel economy. The I4 horsepower edged up to 185, beating its rival Toyota Camry. The V6 power edged up to 278. Fuel economy is remarkably high for the class.

Used Ram 1500 For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Ram 1500 History and Awards

The Ram brand is relatively new but only because it is a spinoff from its parent Dodge. Trucks became part of the Dodge brand in 1914, which eventually came to include the pickup trucks that have been essential in the lineup. In 1981, it introduced the Ram name and since then, the distinctive Ram logo has become an icon in the truck world. Ram became an independent brand in 2009 and the brand built on prior success with a new generation introduced in 2012, which earned the Truck of the Year award from Motor Trend. The next year it surprised everyone by winning the Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award for its Ram diesel edition. Edmunds has also given Ram trucks an A ranking and put them at the top of their shopper’s guide ever since. U.S. News and World Report named the Ram 1500 as the 2016 Best Truck for the Money, and the Ram 1500 Rebel won Four-Wheel Truck of the Year from Four Wheeler Magazine.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

Early Dodge Ram pickup trucks were produced with only two doors with its two-row cabins. The designs were boxier and more squared off, but recent editions are much more aerodynamic. In fact, the Ram V6 has active grille shutters, which reduce wind resistance, allowing the truck to get better fuel economy at higher speeds. Another more recent development is the RamBox system that helps keep tools and equipment organized. Modern Rams include a large Crew Cab, a medium-sized Quad Cab, and regular two-row with three seats. These may be paired up with one of three bed sizes. Most Rams come equipped with trailer hitch and trailer sway control. The interiors of Ram trucks are no longer barebones, In fact, they lead the light duty class with impressive features and luxury. Most critics agree that the Ram trucks have a better cabin than their rivals, even the least expensive models. Amenities range from leather upholstery to heated front seats.

Performance Updates

In 1981, a Ram truck might have as little as 95 horsepower with a Slant-six engine. By 1993, that had risen to 230 horses with a Magnum V8. The 1994 edition made headlines with an 8-liter V8 with 300 horsepower, and today’s generation include a 3-liter V6 that generates 305 horsepower. The HEMI V8 generates 395 horsepower and a healthy 410 lb.-ft. of torque. The diesel engine is capable of cranking out 420 lb.-ft. of torque for extra push at any speed. Some have an auto-leveling function to make the load safer and the ride more aerodynamic. This four-corner system can be operated automatically or at the driver’s prompt.

Nissan Altima Review

Used Nissan Altima For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Nissan Altima History

Manufactured by Nissan since its beginning, the Nissan Altima began in 1992 as a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which itself started in 1957. It has won three awards over the course of its long lifetime: the 2002 North American Car of the Year, the 2010 Altima Received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Highest Front-Impact Crash Safety Rating (five stars), and the 2017 Nissan Altima named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

Nissan’s California design group Blue Studio (under Allan Flowers) gave the Nissan Altima its original styling as a 4-door sedan. When the group changed leadership to Doug Wilson, it remained such but altered subtly. The volume of the car stayed the same, but drivers felt the weight was distributed better and produced a slightly roomier-feeling cabin. Then, the Altima gained a little length and a deeper front grille. The designer responsible for the next set of changes was Jerry Hirshberg. He expanded the interior to 118.8 cubic feet, gave the car a new front grille, and did even more. The next generation of the Nissan Altima, spanning 2007 and 2013, split into two models, the 4-door sedan designed by Ajay Panchal and Takashi Noguchi and the 2-door coupe designed by Toshiyuki Abe. The coupe had a shorter wheelbase, length, and height than the sedan model. The version released in May 2007 was available with two engines, the same updated VQ35DE in the sedan, a 270 hp (201 kW) 3.5-liter 23-valve DOHC V6 or the QR25DE, a 175 hp (130 kW) 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder. In 2009, the Nissan Altima received a new front fascia, a hood, and more fancy additions. The coupe was remodeled in 2010 to have a redesigned front, hood, grille, and more. In 2012, the car was changed over once more and was offered in 5 different trims: the 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, and 3.5 SL. The 2016 model year received new bumpers and active grill sutters, in addition to other features. Between 2012 and 2017, Toshiyuki Abe and Giovanny Arroba took charge of designing the sedan model.

Performance Updates

From 1992 to 1997, Altima models used Nissan’s 150 hp (112 kW) 2.4L KA24DEstraight-4 DOHC engine alongside a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic (acceleration performance: 9.4 seconds 0–60 mph (0–100 km/h) with automatic and 8.2 with manual). This match-up gave sporty, satisfying handling. From 1997 to 2001, the Nissan Altima used a 2.4L KA24DE I4 engine, giving 150 to 155 hp. The 2.5L QR25DE I4 with 175 hp 2.5 / 2.5 S, 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 with 240–250 hp, and the 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 with 260 hp SE-R engines lasted through 2001 and 2006. Also the 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 270 hp SR engines. The fourth generation Altima ((L32A 2006-2012, D32 “Coupe” 2007–2013) revised versions of the third generation engines. Engines used in 2012 models or later include the 1.6L MR16DDT I4, 2.0L MR20DE L4, 2.5 L QR25DE I4 with 182 hp 2.5 / 2.5 S / 2.5 SV / 2.5 SL, and 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 with 270 hp 3.5 S / 3.5 SV / 3.5 SL, 2.0L M9R DCi Diesel I4 engines. The coupe only uses the QR25DE 2.5-Liter four-cylinder rated at 175 hp and QR25DE 2.5 L four-cylinder rated at 175 hp, and the Altima sedan no longer offers 6-speed manual transmission. Also, the SL model, once an addition to the Altima 2.5 S, is now separate.

Used Chevy Silverado 1500

Used Chevy Silverado 1500 For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Chevy Silverado 1500 History and Awards

Chevrolet has been making pickups for over a half century. The first type of medium sized Chevy pickups were called the C/K series. The C/K series was replaced with the modern name brand of Silverado starting in 1999. Chevy Silverados are one of the more popular vehicles in America, particularly in places that have lots of ranches or construction businesses.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

The first Chevy Silverado began a modernized curve design for the headlights and the grill. Sheet metal forming methods had improved, and it was no longer necessary to make trucks that were very box shaped. From 1999-2002, the Chevy Silverado had two small curve headlights on each side. It was generally shaped like a truck, but with more rounded corners than early pickups had. The overall design of the grill and headlights was also shared by the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUV’s.

From 2003-2006, the Chevy Silverado got a more aggressive headlight and grill design that was shared with the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup SUV hybrid vehicle. The headlights were more serious looking and split with a darker bar in the middle. The overall shape of the truck remained the same as in the earlier years. From 2007-2013, the Chevrolet Silverado had a new two headlight design that eliminated the bar through the headlights. This enabled larger headlights to be fitted, giving the pickup a simpler and more modern looking front end. From 2014-2018, the Chevy Silverado had a headlight arrangement that again changed the grill to split the headlights with a bar. The pickup was remade to have a slightly boxier shape, but it still was mostly curved.

Performance Updates

The Chevy Silverado went through engine changes over time. The first versions of the Chevy Silverado offered a 4.3 L V6, and various V8 sizes from 4.8 L to 5.3 L. As the pickup adapted to modern technology, changes took place to its power plant. The 2012 Chevy Silverado 5.3 L V8 had an option that allowed for extra fuel economy. Cylinder deactivation is something that mechanical engineers recently invented. This helps large vehicles like the Chevy Silverado use their engines more efficiently. The modern 2018 Chevy Silverado will have several engine options tied to an effective 6 speed automatic transmission. Some dealerships will be offering the Chevy Silverado with a small electric motor attached to the gasoline engine. This will help it achieve better fuel economy. An optional 8-speed transmission might also make the Chevy Silverado even more efficient.

If you would like to drive a Chevy Silverado to see if it is a good vehicle for you, just call to schedule a test drive. Sales staff can walk you through the features of the pickup to see if it matches your needs.

Used Chevy Impala LT

Used Chevy Impala For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Chevy Impala History and Awards

The first Chevrolet Impala was presented as a 1958 model. This top-of-the-line vehicle continued in production until 1985. Many of these early Impalas are regarded as collector vehicles. Production resumed in 1994, but it was not until the eighth generation from 2000 to 2005 that trim levels were introduced. These included the LS and SS trims. By the 2006 model year, the LT trim level was introduced along with the LS, LTZ, and SS trim levels. This corresponds to the ninth generation that included the years 2006 to 2016.

Starting in 2006, the Chevy Impala LT trim was available as a 4-door sedan that could seat 6 people with front-wheel drive and a front-engine. The LT was regarded as the mid-range model. Along with the base LS, the LT featured air conditioning, 16-inch wheels, tilt steering wheel, power driver’s seat, power locks, and keyless entry. You had a choice of 2 front bucket seats or one front bench seat. The LT model features remote vehicle start. Cloth seating surfaces were standard while leather upholstery was optional on the LT models. The LT offered alloy wheels and MP3 playback capabilities. Front heated seats were optional. Over the years, various other features and options were added to the Impala LT.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

The Chevy Impala LT has a body style that has changed little over time. It remains a solid full-size sedan like it has always been. In 2006 the Impala received new headlights and taillights. The 2008 model year added 2 sub packages that were known as 1LT and 2LT that included 17-inch alloy wheels. By 2009 the 2LT added a rear spoiler and foglights. The 2012 Impala received slightly revised styling for the front and rear, and the LT lost the foglights. The LT also got an optional sunroof. The 2014 Impala LT gets 18-inch alloy wheels and a wheel package that outfits the vehicle with 19-inch wheels. Note that the LT trim is divided into the 1LT and 2LT sub-trims based on whether the 4-cylinder (1LT) or the 6-cylinder (2LT) is under the hood.

Performance Updates

In 2006 the standard engine for a Chevy Impala LT was a 3.5 liter V6 engine capable of producing 211 hp with torque of 214 lb-ft. A 3.9 liter V6 that could produce 240 hp with torque of 242 lb-ft was also available. This V6 was standard on the LTZ. All Impala models used a 4-speed automatic transmission. By 2007, the V6 came with Active Fuel Management which deactivated half the cylinders when cruising to help save fuel. The 2012 Impala received a new 3.6 liter V6 with direct-injection and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine can produce 300 hp with torque of 262 lb-ft. By 2014 a 4-cylinder engine comes standard on the 1LT models. The 2LT comes with the V6 engine. The 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine comes as standard on the 3 trim levels for 2014. It produces 195 hp with torque of 187 lb-ft. The LT gets an optional 3.6 liter V6 engine that produces 305 hp with torque of 264 lb-ft. Performance testing showed that the Impala with the V6 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds. Test drivers report that the 2014 Impala handles well with precise steering. The ride is comfortable as is to be expected from a full-size sedan.

In general, between 100,000 and 200,000 Impalas were sold in the US from 2010 to 2015. Chances are that you can find the used Chevy Impala LT that you want. Please contact the dealership for more information and to schedule a test drive.

Used Kia Sorento

Used Kia Sorento For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Kia Sorento History and Awards

The history of the Kia Sorento is one that matches the story of Kia’s own rise from a budget import automaker to a global giant with a reputation for quality and value. As the mid-size SUV market started booming in the early 2000s, it was decided that Kia should produce its own model for the segment. At the time, Kia’s only SUV was the Mazda-derived first-generation Kia Sportage, which was not up to the increasingly demanding standards of the segment. The first-generation Sorento, first released in 2002, showed Kia’s dedication to developing a top-quality SUV, seeing upgrades in 2005, 2007 and 2009. However, it quickly became clear that the traditional body-on-frame SUVs were giving way to the more agile unibody crossover SUVs. While Kia released another body-on-frame SUV in 2009 – the Kia Borrego – the headlining event of the year was the 2nd generation, unibody Sorento.

The new Sorento was a huge leap forward for the crossover, cementing the modern Sorento’s place in the mid-size crossover market. As a unibody crossover, it was far more agile and fuel-efficient that the outgoing model, and featured a selection of both four- and six-cylinder engines that allowed buyers to choose their preferred balance between fuel economy and power. It was also Kia’s first US-built vehicle, which significantly improved both build quality and availability of the model. It also served as the release platform for Kia’s award-winning UVO infotainment system as well. But the biggest change the 2nd generation offered was a huge improvement in crash test scores, with the 2009 Sorento taking home top awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the European New Car Assessment Programme and the Australasian New Car Assessment Program. The 3rd generation, beginning in 2014, made slight improvements to that winning formula, increasing passenger space, body rigidity and handling, as well as introducing another engine option to the lineup, resulting in today’s Kia Sorento.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

Kia’s designers have done an excellent job keeping the Sorento current with the latest auto design trends while still keeping the overall look and feel of the vehicle constant. The side silhouette of the three generations is almost identical, making the car easily identifiable regardless of model year. The first-generation is distinctive with its early-2000s truck aesthetic, including prominent bumpers and running boards and curved corners in the front and the back. The second generation of the Sorento came as part of the large-scale styling shift at Kia, precipitated by the hiring of the famous German designer Peter Schreyer in 2006. He introduced the classic ‘tiger nose’ tapered front design that became a Kia mainstay, as well as adding sharper lines to the body of the Sorento. The third generation saw most of the styling changes in the details, with narrower headlights, a larger grille and more prominent fog light bays.

Performance Updates

While the initial release of the first generation of the Kia Sorento featured both a four-cylinder and a six-cylinder engine, its body-on-frame design and large size clearly called for more power. Over the three mid-cycle updates, the 2.4-liter four-cylinder was slowly phased out, while the V-6 grew from 3.3 to 3.5 and eventually to 3.8 liters, maxing out at 263 horsepower. The lighter weight and the unibody construction of the second generation made four-cylinders feasible again, as well as the introduction of the higher-performing GDI engines, meaning the four-cylinder models got up to 191 horsepower, while the V-6 models produced up to 276. The third generation boosted the V-6 even further, up to 290, while also introducing a turbocharged four-cylinder with an output of 240 horsepower as an alternative, while still keeping the traditional four-cylinder.

The Kia Sorento’s long history is one of constant improvement, and the recent models of the crossover are really some of the best cars you can get your hands on in the mid-size crossover segment. We invite you to try out our selection of pre-owned Kia Sorento cars on a test-drive. Call us today and schedule your appointment with one of these amazing vehicles!

Used Dodge Charger For Sale in Leavenworth, KS

Dodge Charger History and Awards

From the General Lee to the modern-day police cruiser, the Dodge Charger has always been known for performance, style, and innovation. Making its debut as a show car in 1964, the iconic Charger has been credited with “three-upping” [1] the competition and even “saving the [Chrysler] corporation.” [2] By 1968, the Charger was already responsible for 16% of Dodge’s car sales.

With Carl “Cam” Cameron as the principal exterior stylist, and Bob Rodger as Chief Engineer, the Charger won plenty of hardware in its youth: Cars magazine named it the Top Performance Car of the Year in 1967, and from 1969 to 1970, the Charger won so many races that NASCAR had to level the playing field by making new rules reducing engine displacement and introducing carburetor restrictor plates. With its flagship vehicle suddenly coming of age, Dodge had to walk a fine line between obligatory annual updates and not messing with a good thing. It was a good problem to have.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

In 1975, the Charger was completely restyled, allowing Dodge to enter the compulsory luxury car market. Then, in 1981, it was rebooted as a subcompact hatchback coupe. Eventually, the Charger looked in the mirror, realized it was an adult, and decided that the time for experimentation and “following the crowd” was over. After taking some time off to find itself, the Charger returned triumphantly in 2006, sporting a look that would make Bo and Luke Duke proud. The taillights, stamped hood, and side panels all hearkened back to the Charger’s glory days, and the 2007 balance sheet saw sales figures hit their apex for the resurgent Charger. In 2011, the Charger got another facelift in the form of more angular headlights, a more aerodynamic shape, and increased driver visibility, but much of its side and rear continued to pay homage to its successful 1968-1970 version. To be sure, the Dodge Charger achieves its greatest success when it’s tipping its cap to its illustrious past.

Performance Updates

The Charger’s original engine was a 318 ID (5.2L) V8 with a three-speed floor shifter. But four other engines were available, including a 440 Magnum, producing 375 HP. In 1970, the 440 Six Pack debuted: Three two-chamber carburetors and 390 HP. 1971 marked the last year the Hemi 426 was sold, thanks to rising gasoline prices and insurance rates. In 1973, the standard engine sold with the Charger was the Chrysler LA 318 V8, which allowed the use of cheaper regular gasoline. The Chrysler 360 V8 engine helped usher in the luxury car, and then six years later, in 1981, the NA 2.2L SOHC powered the subcompact. Over the next several years, most of the performance updates would come in the form of electronics.

When the Dodge Charger was resurrected in 2006, it came with a 3.5L V6, and all wheel drive (AWD). Five years later, base performance increased again, this time to a Pentastar 3.6L producing 292 BHP at 6350 RPM. The 4-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a 5-speed auto. At present, all (non-police) models come standard with 8-speed transmission.

You can find a good selection of used Dodge trucks at our dealership in Leavenworth, KS. Our friendly and professional staff can tell you more about each model’s capability.

Ford Focus History and Awards

Ford Focus was introduced to the world in the year 1998 in Europe. The vehicle was launched as a new upgraded option for the Escort for 2000 model in North America as a Christmas gift for the CEO Jacques Nasser. This model had some changes from the European model. The name “Ford Focus” was decided earlier in the year as the company’s seniors had planned to keep the “Escort” name for a new line of smaller family cars.

The absolutely stunning design of the very first Ford Focus generation that was launched in the U.S. had three different options. The first one was a 5-door wagon, the second was a 4-door sedan, and the third one was a 3-door hatchback. There were some reliability issues during the initial years, but eventually, Focus became one of the best economy cars of the time. The Focus MK1 model got the 1999 European Car of the Year award. Following all the success, Ford launched a 5-door hatchback model in the year 2001. The second generation of Ford Focus was launched in 2004 and the third in 2011. Also, Ford launched its high performing model, Ford RS in the year 2002.

Impressive Appearance Over Time

The Ford Focus has had over 12 million owners from the time it was launched back in ’98. The vehicle has gone through many different changes regarding the engine, shape, etc. If we look at the timeline of the vehicle’s appearance, we’ll see that the car has always had a classic look with changes here and there.

The very first model, MK1 Focus won awards for its high performance, great handling and of course, its stunning looks. Its new design had crisp edges and featured taillights at eye level, creases in bonnet and huge space in the car. The second generation, MK2, launched in 2004 had a “safe” design, literally. It got 5-stars in Euro NCAP crash tests. Significant changes were made in the front bumper making the car more safe for the driver and pedestrian as well. The designers at Ford came up with the “Third Age Suit” design in the third generation that basically simulated physical restrictions of an older human. The third generation MK3 2015 model had an overall restyled look with advanced technologies.

Performance Updates

The very first Ford Focus generation was powered by gasoline engines from 1.4 L to 2.0 L Zetec engines. Initially, Ford offered Kona Edition, Sony Limited Edition and Street Edition in order to promote the vehicle’s name. The company launched Ford RS in 2002 that had a 2.0 L turbocharged Zetec engine. It had Brembo brakes, limited-slip differential and other part upgrades that attracted the whole world. The AdvanceTrac electronic stability control was also available in the ’02 and ’03 models.

The Ford SYNC system was also launched after the company restyled the vehicle in the 2008 model. With every changes and mods in the vehicle’s body, there were performance upgrades as well. A very powerful 160 hp., 2.0 L engine was installed in the 2012 model. In the next year, even a bigger turbocharged engine with an output of 252 horsepower was installed in the Ford Focus ST model.
